Open dialogues with key decision makers in the Hawkesbury
Following the successful launch of the Hawkesbury Business Group in August 2024, HBG immediately set out to engage with Hawkesbury Council to voice the concerns of local businesses.
The first “Meet your Councillors” event took place soon after, offering an opportunity for the broader business community to engage with their council. HBG continues to coordinate these events to ensure the needs of the business community are heard.

Take part in solving key issues HBG is working to address
Business is the key generator of community wealth. Business creates employment and generates tax revenue that pays for infrastructure improvements to roads, health, education and all other services provided by government, improving the quality of life for residents.
Unfortunately, numerous issues affecting businesses in the Hawkesbury have come to light, primarily centered on the Council’s shortcomings that stymie commercial success, including:
- Development Application (DA) Delays – businesses reported excessive delays in processing their DAs, which has hindered their ability to grow and meet demand.
- High Court Costs – many entrepreneurs have faced burdensome legal fees when dealing with Council-related matters, placing additional financial stress on their operations.
- Poor Communication – a lack of clear and timely communication from Council has left many businesses frustrated, stifling their ability to operate quickly and efficiently.
- Infrastructure Concerns – the deteriorating condition of local roads was repeatedly highlighted as a critical issue. Businesses shared that frequent vehicle damage due to poor infrastructure has led to increased transport costs, impacting their bottom line.
By organising gatherings of Councillors and businesses, HBG is ensuring that the voices of the local entrepreneurial community are heard.
It represents a proactive step towards fostering accountability, encouraging transparency, and finding practical solutions to strengthen the business environment in the Hawkesbury.
